Despite economic growth of approximately seven percent and modest political progress, Tanzania remains one of the world's poorest countries. Rainfall shortage forced the government to distribute relief food in 38 districts. Poor farmers were particularly hard-hit.
Concern’s work in Tanzania
Concern has been operational in Tanzania since 1978, with emergency response and long-term development programs focused on HIV and AIDS, good governance, improving incomes, and access to food and water.
- WATER—Reducing the rates of environmental and waterborne diseases among 219,948 people in poor communities
- LIVELIHOODS—Contributing to the fulfillment of the right to food for 369,696 people living below the poverty line
- EMERGENCY–Helping 15,000 people cope with drought and rising food prices
