Thanks for Giving Ball

Concern Worldwide held its first annual Thanks-for-Giving Ball on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at the Hard Rock Hotel Chicago.  More than 180 guests enjoyed an evening of music & dancing, food from Hearty Boys Catering, and drinks generously donated by Lot 18, Diageo, Goose Island and Crown Imports.  Guests had the chance to bid on several auction items including a weekend trip, a Chicago staycation, Chicago Blackhawks tickets, WXRT Studio X concert tickets and an original painting by Jeff Zimmerman. 

This event was presented by The McShane Foundation and hosted by the Concern Leadership Network, a group of service-minded young professionals who support Concern's mission through outreach and event-based fundraising.  The event was lead by committee co-chairs Kathleen McCauley and Jeanne Wrenn. 

More than $50,000 was raised for Concern’s emergency and development programs in the Horn of Africa. The world’s worst food crisis is devastating East Africa. A staggering 13 million people in Kenya, Somalia and Ethiopia lack access to food and water and are in immediate and urgent need of humanitarian assistance. The region’s worst drought in 60 years has scorched pastures and killed huge numbers of livestock, and the situation is deteriorating daily.  Concern is implementing programs to save lives now, while continuing to work on long-term development programs to prevent a future crisis.A special thank you to our sponsors, committee members and volunteers and to everyone who helped make our first annual ball a huge success!
