Our favorite aspiring TV journalist — Monica Akinyi — returns to the spotlight in TakePart’s global feature on 16 women turning 16 in 2016.

TakePart’s new Big Issues reporting project — 16 in ‘16 — brings readers on a global journey into the lives of 16 teens who will turn 16 in 2016.  A collection of profiles, images, and videos tackles the topics that both set these women apart and unite them as one.

From education, race, and sexuality to family life and aspirations, TakePart reminds us how important it is to empower the next generation of women around the world.

One of the 16 young women featured, Monica Akinyi, is no stranger to the Concern Worldwide spotlight. We first met her back in 2014 in the heart of Nairobi’s Mathare slum. Two years later, she is unwavering in her dream of becoming a TV reporter and improving the lives of the people around her.

Take a closer look at Monica's daily life, and her enthusiasm for the future!
